How to aggravate a/your hair stylist.
There are a few key things that will drive any hair stylist crazy. We don't often show it, say it, or perhaps even remember it if it is not an ongoing thing. However, here are a few things I have witnessed in my years as a stylist that stem either from unthinking actions, self-indulgant behavior, or maybe even just basic rude attitudes. 1) Calling a stylist and attempting to make an appointment without a clear idea of when you can come in or what time frame you need. Not many stylists are psychic! 2) Calling for an appointment when your calendar is upstairs and you are on the downstairs phone and asking the stylist (who no doubt is busy) to wait while you fetch it. 3)Canceling, unless an emergency case, with less than 6 hours notice. You have just lost the stylist money. They do not get paid by the hour and they do need grocery money! 4) Booking and then not showing. Again, you have cut the stylist's grocery money by keeping her from filling that time with another appointment. 5) Sitting in a stylists chair after she finishes when she has another customer waiting so as to make out your check, talk to another person you might know, or to re-apply your make-up. Stylists hate the role of bouncer. 6) Arriving late and then expecting the same amount of time you had originally booked. 7) Using her $250.00 hair cutting shears to remove a strip of leather from your worn out shoes. Want to see a heart attack in the making? 8) Trying to turn on the shampoo hose with no knowledge of how to work one and spraying the entire area, including other clients hair, creating a mess the styling team must deal with. (Not to mention the glares of the other clients with now dripping hair!) 9) Arriving with unruly children who run around creating chaos. This is for their safety as well as the nerves of the stylists. 10) Always calling at the last minute begging the stylist to take you and forgo lunch or necessitating her to come early or stay late. 11) Calling two days before Christmas/trip/wedding just knowing your stylists will "work you in". The only real excuse for this is a death in the immediate family. 12) Bringing a picture of someone who bears no physical resemblance to you or your hair type and wanting to look "just like her". As the old saying goes...They are beauticians, not magicians. 13) Leaving a mess (ugggh!) in the bathroom that someone else must clean up. 14) Answering your cell phone in the middle of a hair service without asking if it is okay. Hard to cut hair evenly with a cell phone in one ear! 15) Putting your glasses on dislodging the rollers, perm rods or color foils the stylist has just worked hard to place just so. If you must wear your glasses tell the stylist so she can aid you or work it into the service. 16) Talking like a bobble head. It is hard to hit a moving target! 17) Bringing your children to the half hour appointment you booked for your own hair cut with the intent that the stylist can also just take a bit off of Janie's bangs or Johhny's back. 18) Booking for a cut, then expecting a perm or coloring service. I could go on... the list is wide and varied, but the point is to use your head, be kind to others and do unto others as you expect them to do unto you!
