Fun Facts about Cincinnati, Ohio
Cincinnati, Ohio is located at the Southweatern base of Ohio along the Ohio river. It is a town primarily of German descent, which heritage is found in the last names of many residents, the architecture and the Zinzinnati Festival each fall, a sort of Octoberfest with lots of beer consumed. Here are a few other facts not readily found on the internet and not known about Cincinnati unless perhaps you have lived there: 1) The city was once known as Porkopolis due to the large number of pigs slaughtered and the meat packing industries. It is the original home of the Kahn's weiner, the "weiner the world awaited". Also known as the Queen City. 2) The city is often represented by flying pigs...this icon found in its major downtown park and its Flying Pig Marathon, a large race every year. We also have the Rubber Duck race each year consisting of numbered rubber ducks floating down river to a specified point. The money goes to charity. 3) Cincinnati is known for its chili which is actually chili spaghetti. This is not much like the chilis found in other areas of the US. It is also known for its White Castle hamburgers. Many folks who move away often seek these out when they visit. Once the taste is acquired it is hard to forget these two! 4) Folks around here say "Please?" when they want you to repeat something. Guess that is better than "Huh?" 5) You really can 't go anywhere around here that you don't have to go up or down hill. It is surrounded by the Seven Hills and the downtown section sits in a bowl at river level. 6) We have a bridge (one of five!) that crosses the river named after the McDonald's Big Mac sandwich. We also have the "Purple People Eater" bridge. 7) Everyone over the age of 40 has had an Uncle Al and can remember Batty Hatty from Cincinnat, the craziest witch you ever knew. You also laughed at the Cool Ghoul instead of being frightened of him. 8) From downtown Cincinnati it is a short trip to Moscow, Wyoming, California, Lebanon, and a tad bit longer trip to Paris and Versailles. 9) You grow up knowing what a cross-town shoot out is and get excited about it. 10) You know what corn hole is. 11) The cure for what ails you here is allergy and sinus medicine! 12) You know the significance of the phrase "Who Dey!" when yelled loudly into your ear, even when not at the Bengals stadium or even after consuming large quanties of "Hudy".
